Dr. Peter Schmidt is Chief Scientific Officer at Dr. Vince Clinical Research and is a translational medicine leader with extensive experience spanning academia, industry, clinical research organizations, nonprofit networks, and health technology. He was trained in applied math at Harvard and Cornell, and had an orthopedic fellowship at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery. In subsequent roles, Dr. Schmidt has worked across technology, finance, neuroscience and clinical development as a chief scientist, vice dean, and company president. He has provided strategic and scientific leadership across neurology, psychiatry, and immunology trials, from bench success through regulatory approval, contributing to over 100 clinical trials and supervising teams running more than 250. In leadership roles, he has overseen more than $1.25 billion in operating revenue.
In operating and advisory roles, Schmidt has served government and industry leading the evolution in clinical research and a transformation in approaches to clinical care quality. With a long-term focus on Parkinson’s, he has led work to advanced care quality, outcomes measurement, and digital health integration, as well as advancing development of five marketed medical devices and six approved drugs and biologics. A pioneer in telemedicine, decentralized clinical trials, wearable sensors, and digital biomarkers, he has worked in large-scale health data systems since the mid-1990s.
Schmidt is no stranger to challenges: he was at an internet business for the dotcom bubble, investment banking for the financial crisis, leading a medical school during the pandemic, and overseeing vaccine research last year.
